to study the law
of the Lord and
to practice it, and
to teach His statutes
and ordinances in Israel.

Free Complete Resources Online
Before we discuss how these quizzes can build good Bible study habits below, keep in mind that all of the Bible resources we will mention can be found online for free, and usually all in one web site (see Bible Gateway, Bible Hub and Bible Study Tools web sites). Also keep in mind, that these quizzes are designed to greatly enhance our ability to fully grasp the what of the Scriptures, while reading and checking a few resources, without feeling like our reading time is a Bible study in itself.

Incorporate into Quiet Time

This reading and taking the quizzes should / could be incorporated into our daily quiet time. Our quiet time includes prayer and discussing with the Lord what we have been reading, and in general, what is going on in our life. We should try and find time where we are not in a hurry. Just the Facts

As stated, the quizzes are first and foremost designed to test what the Scriptures say. There is no attempt to ask why or how interpretation questions. However, there are great insights that can be gained by first paying attention to the arrangement, choice and frequency of certain words, that can help us in understanding the why or how.

Check Those Cross References and Navigate a Bible Atlas

The quizzes also cover other Scriptures and footnotes that may be referenced or cross-referenced (a Bible with cross references and footnotes may be needed); as well as covering questions about geographical features, distances and locations / directions (a Bible atlas may be needed).

Check Different Translations and Break Out the Hebrew and Greek Lexicons (just a few questions - we promise !)

In addition a very small amount of questions may cover how other translations translate certain words; and some questions may cover the meaning behind certain key Greek and Hebrew words (different Bible translations and Hebrew and Greek lexicons may be needed).

Key Translations Used

The main Bible translation used is the NASB (New American Standard Version 1995). The other ones consulted were: ESV (English Standard Version), KJV (King James Version), NIV (New International Version 1984 and 2011) and NET (New English Translation). Finally, there are some questions that include different words in parenthesis from other translations. This is a great benefit, as the user can see at a glance how other translations depict certain key words.

Master the Word - The Word Masters You - Become Useful to the Master

In summary, by slowly going through one chapter (Psalms may have two or three and Job will have two chapters), a day, and taking these quizzes, the habits of spotting key words and researching footnotes, cross references, geographical references, and lexical meanings will become second nature and will enhance our overall knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures. This will greatly enable our ability to do additional exegesis (i.e., Bible Study) later and to answer the why and how which is more geared toward defining Bible doctrine and discovering Biblical principles. And as previously stated we could also treat this as an open book quiz and answer those you can first, then look up the others to try and get 100% on each quiz!

Another benefit of taking the quizzes is that it will remind us of key Scriptures and overall Bible knowledge. Pretty soon we will be a walking concordance ourselves. And just think, in three short years (or sooner) we will have read through the entire Bible and will have been tested on every chapter! As we learn, we put this knowledge and wisdom into the practice of doing the works of God - loving and serving Him and our neighbours with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
